AWE’s Future Talent team wanted to explore ways to reduce reneges and streamline manual engagement methods. As a forward-thinking and supportive business, AWE is passionate that new joiners should experience their culture before arriving in the business. With a long but critical onboarding time including extensive vetting resulting in frequently high new starter renege rates, AWE’s Future Talent team approached Connectr Talent Tech to help solve this challenge.

Implementation

The solution? A highly engaging, AWE-branded Connectr preboarding platform that equips incoming hires with a diverse network of digital buddies to increase their sense of belonging pre-day one. Connectr Talent Tech and AWE partnered to provide a preboarding engagement programme to get their early talent from ‘yes to desk’: including online content released at key points during their preboarding process to encourage return visits during the long preboarding window and ‘always on’ access to vetted digital buddies from across the business. Relocating and accomodation was also a hot-topic for incoming graduates and undergraduates, so forums are opened each year for cohorts to meet each other and work out logistics.

  • 700 messages sent between new starters and buddies
  • New starters developed an emotional contract with the business through personal connections made before day 1
  • Risks of reneges minimised with frequent engagement from AWE through the platform and via virtual events on key areas of flight risk, such as security clearance and relocating
  • New joiners are ‘job ready’ before day one thanks to engaging content about life at AWE and insights into the lives of other employees via the digital buddies
